Here's my second attempt and I found the North Star!

The subjects in the foreground suck since I'm practicing in my backyard. My house is the closest one LOL!

Now I have to go find a good place with a great subject and do this all again!

UPDATE: I forgot to add this to this photo:

This is actually 188 shots taken at 30 seconds each and put together with the "StarTrails" program.

It's free to everyone! You can get it here: [link]

Wow great work man. Always been really into star shooting. But was jus' recently told about the Startrails program. Seems to work well for the brighter foreground.

Mind if I ask what the advantage of using Startrails is over a single shot?

';preciate the time :)

Thank you!

For me, the program keeps the foreground from becoming super bright and drowning out the stars. Besides I don't know how to do all that layering stuff in PSP.

what's the difference between many shots or a single one?

The foreground doesn't drown out the background ie; the stars.

I don't know how to do the layering stuff in PSP that I hear most people use to do this stuff.

The shot itself is amazing! how long of an exposure? I do love the idea of having subjects in the foreground, it brings an element of realism to an otherwise otherworldly spectacle. Maybe next time a hot chick instead of a house, lol! ;)...jk

If I can find a hot chick to stand outside in 9 degree weather for an hour and forty five minutes, I'll have a photo for you and a new wife for me!

Lol! Cool, I'll have to check out that site more, and finally find a place with lttle light pollution, unfortunately even on a clear night over here, only a handful of stars are visible.

I did this in my backyard with a parking lot nearby and all it's lights beaming all over the place.

It only uses the brightest parts of the follow photos when it stacks them on the first one. If your first photo is fairly clean, the program won't notice the difference.
